Are you interested in becoming a member of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) EL Support Team, a cadre of current or former North Carolina teachers, administrators and retirees with a strong understanding of theory-based concepts for best-practices in EL student education? Team members contract through NCDPI to offer training and coaching opportunities across the state. This team has a strong history of effectively serving North Carolina schools and English learners. By applying to become a member of the team, you have an opportunity to showcase your knowledge and skills!
Applications demonstrating a strong understanding of theory-based concepts for best-practices in EL student education will be given priority. These concepts include academic language development, second language acquisition, literacy, authentic formative and summative assessments, technology integration, data-driven decision making, North Carolina academic standards, working with newcomers, ESL program models, co-teaching, and effective coaching. Additionally, outstanding presentation and organizational skills are a must! The current state-led initiatives include: Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP), Expediting Comprehension for English Language Learners (ExC-ELL), World-class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA), and LinguaFolio. Team members must be well-versed in these, as well as flexible and open to learning new initiatives as they arise.

Professional (supervisor/administrator) recommendation is required. Upon receipt of your application, an email will be sent to the person indicated with a link to the reference form. The completed form is required in order for the application to be processed. Please alert the administrator to your desire to apply for EL Support Team membership before submitting the application.
NCDPI will provide ongoing training to the EL Support Team Members. Team members must commit to attending NCDPI-led training, which will take place face to face and/or virtually, throughout the year. The initial NCDPI-led training will be held July 23-24, 2018.
